A lot of people ask me if it helps to see a chiropractor for TMJ problems. I say, it can. And the reason is this. A chiropractor’s job is to get the spinal joints moving properly at every level.

When the spinal joints of the neck are in the right position and moving properly, it reduces the chance of irritation on nerves and blood vessels. Some of those nerves and blood vessels feed the muscles of the face and jaw; therefore if they are functioning properly, the jaw can benefit.

Also, you have to think of muscles themselves; they are connected to bones. If neck vertebrae of the spine are stuck and not moving in their normal joint planes, muscles can get too tight or too lax, both of which can cause spasms, neck pain and affect TMJ function.

But after years of experience, I believe the quickest way to TMJ pain relief is by wearing a mouth guard while sleeping at night. Why? Because the number one cause of TMJ pain is the grinding or gritting of one’s teeth at night. (folow this link to learn more about TMJ night guards.)

When people grind or clench their teeth while sleeping (bruxism), the parts of the jaw joint get irritated and inflamed. The TMJ meniscus or disk often gets distorted in its relationship to the jaw joint.

Then people can experience clicking or popping of the jaw. Some patients even suffer from a locked jaw, where the mouth won’t open up. It makes it very difficult to eat, and the jaw can be injured if it’s forced open.

Headaches and ringing in the ears are also common symptoms of TMJ syndrome. Any or all of these symptoms can be greatly helped by wearing a good mouth guard while sleeping. The mouth guard prevents the clenching and grinding of teeth. And having the spine adjusted by a chiropractor can be beneficial, too.

Ok, Dr. Spainhower here,

I have written a story on the Occlusal Guard titled the “Truth About Mouth Guards” ebook that you may obtain from my review page. But, I will highlight some factors from that report here for you.

Almost all appliances placed within your mouth as an Occlusal Guard, TMJ Splint, Night Guard, Mouth Guard For Grinding, or Teeth Grinding Mouth Guard etc. No matter the design has the possibility to offer relief. Nearly everyone can reduce pain. But, following a number of weeks, most will or can begin to cause pain again. This has to do with proprioception and muscle engrams.

As Grinding Teeth In Sleep take place, or when you have Teeth Clenching at nighttime, most devices placed inside the mouth will promote further clenching that persuade you to definitely grind teeth at night. Your teeth will be protected from the results of grinding with a Mouth Guards Teeth Grinding so that your teeth will not wear down, however the muscles are over worked and cause fatigue and pains.

There are few Occlusal Guards out there (OTC or internet) to pick from. The Guard For Grinding Teeth you see advertised are created to guard your teeth from grinding and wearing your teeth down, and are usually quite harmful for your TMJ Symptoms. Several Guard For Grinding Teeth may cause Lock jaw indications as well.

Thus, in my review through links on this site will reveal which Occlusal Guard will work a little and which work well. The majority of night guards however come far from reducing your pains…since they aren’t intended to cut back pain, they are intended to guard teeth. Sadly, they sometimes truly cause symptoms for TMJ.

Hello, Dr. Spainhower here,

I’m a TMJ Dentist in Layton Utah.

If you’re looking for the best OTC TMJ Guards, then I’m glad you’ve found this website and I strongly suggest you keep reading…

Because my uncensored Occlusal Guards review is just one click away. My reviews compare the performance between the popular TMJ Night guards, which ones are comfortable and which ones fall out easier. Finally, which ones don’t work and also the 2 or 3 guards that have the highest chance to eliminate your symptoms.

Why am I writing this? Well, my patients have a need for a Mouth Guard For Grinding Teeth, and many reports indicate that many just don’t work well. I’ve treated thousands of Patients with symptoms for TMJ, and I usually use my custom made mouth guard for grinding, made from my private dental office. But, I’ve heard horror stories (and some good) about TMJ night guards from retail stores and the internet. I didn’t really know if any of them worked.

So, I purchased several popular OTC Best mouth guard for grinding, and tested them myself (14 of them). I couldn’t find any actual reviews that actually compare one mouth guard to another, so I decided that needed to be done.

I’ll warn you, I’ll reveal both the good and not so good points, so if that’s something you might not want to hear, then you may as well leave now. I’ve given my honest critiques as I wore these night guards every night for about a year…testing them. I did however tended to wear specific ones more, because they worked better and where more comfortable. The OTC guards are Not great and have some substantial issues. But, as I tested them, I now know which one is the best one to try for all around pains, and a couple of different ones if you have lock jaw or significant popping and clicking.

If you’d like to save some money over buying the expensive Teeth Grinding Mouth Guard from your Dentist, you can try the inexpensive ones that I recommend. My TMJ Guards in my office cost only 650.00. They work great, but, many of you can have relief with the right OTC guard depending on your case and TMJ symptoms.

IF you’re stilling reading this and haven’t clicked thru to read the review, I’ll go into some differences with TMJ Guards.

There are upper arch TMJ guards and lower arch guards:

Upper guards can be more helpful depending if you have lockjaw symptoms or clicking and popping issues. If you don’t have any locking or clicking issues, then the lower TMJ guards or splints (they’re the same thing) can work just as well as the upper splints (if you have the right one for you).

Soft vs. Hard guards:

Generally the soft ones cause more problems compared to the hard ones. In recent years, labs are making the dual laminate guards that have a soft inner material and a harder outer material. These are better than the All soft material guards.

The causes of symptoms for TMJ are from Grinding teeth in sleep. If you grind teeth in sleep then the fastest way to reduce the undesirable effects is to wear the right Occlusal Guard. One that does Not cause teeth clenching at night. See, many or most all, almost every one…does promote or cause clenching at night. That is why some professionals are negative or against wearing Mouth Guards Teeth Grinding at night. But, if you get the right one that is designed to reduce clenching, then you’ll have a better nights’ sleep, less symptoms for TMJ and you’ll sleep like a baby again.

The SmartGuard night guard came out on top, but it does have some limitations, but, it’ll still be possible to help more people than all other occlusal guards that I’ve tested. Yes, I said it is possible, in fact probable to eliminate your pains. The other reviewed Mouth Guards Teeth Grinding reasons I recommend, depends on your symptoms, so…

I hope you found this information useful etc, you can click here to check out the reviews.
